About
A little bit about me.
I’m an industrial designer. For those people who aren’t really sure what that is, perhaps this will explain it. I design things. I have experience in taking products from the initial doodle on the napkin, through ideation sketching and form development, CAD, user testing, all the way to design for manufacture and production. In addition to this, I have quite a bit of experience in model making, stress analysis and of course in graphics and print design.
I do a fair amount of freelance work, ranging from consumer products to engineering mechanisms. I’ve also spent a long time working with The Bloodhound Project, which I have dedicated a whole section of the website to. In terms of academia, I studied Product Design Technology at the University of the West of England, Bristol. There I achieved a First Class honours and a few prizes for my work along the way.
Not everything that I do is work though. On the rare occasions that I get some spare time, I like to adopt small projects. Previously these have ranged from the writing of books to the building of roto-moulding machines (who says you ever have to get rid of your old toys?!). I also try to keep sketching whenever possible, and have developed a taste for cooking. Somewhere between all this, I manage to do some cycling and the odd physical challenge.
If I am to brutally honest; I’m in to technology. Whether through books, blogs or articles I am always reading up on the next technological innovation. I try to tweet often and am continually connected to the internet through some means or another. I do however like to think of myself as a calm and philosophical person. I approach problems with a positive attitude and the belief that no task is insurmountable. I enjoy team work, and like most designers get a particular buzz out of seeing something I have worked on reaching its full potential.
I always have something going on and like nothing more than to design to a challenge. I’m proud to say that I am much more than can be said in a simple profile piece.
I am Hywel Rhobet Vaughan, and I am an Industrial Designer.
